The stories we tell shape the world we build.

The stories we tell about ourselves determine who belongs, whose voices matter, and what's possible. IDCL works to expand those stories—and with them, our collective imaginations.

We catalyze the power of stories to transform. By working with activists, organizers, scholars, students, artists, and community members, we cultivate narratives that reimagine our shared world—not as one bound by fear and exclusion, but as one expansive enough to hold us all.

The Texas Storyscapes Digital Archive and Oral History initiative is a community-driven project that documents, records and preserves the stories of the many peoples and communities across Texas with an emphasis on stories, identities, and communities that have been historically excluded or marginalized in the public sphere and larger narratives of Texas. We invite everyday Texans to share stories about cultural identity, migration and belonging, religion and spirituality, community building, and the tensions and joys of their everyday life in a place as diverse—and at times divided—as Texas.

This exhibit showcases the projects of 21 grant recipients– scholars, activists, and artists– who document experiences of migration in Texas through narrative, oral history, documentary, art, and other interpretive storytelling methods. We invite you to explore these projects and consider how these stories and the multidimensional experiences of immigrant families shape Texas today. This program is made possible by the generous support of the Henry Luce Foundation.
